Riley Andersen (also known as The FireHawk) is a main character and location for her emotions of the Disney/Pixar Inside Out franchise, one of the major characters (alongside Andy Davis) in Toy Story 5, and one of the main protagonists (alongside Deadpool, Joy, Wolverine, Star-Lord, Mr. Fantastic and The Watcher) in the Deadpool crossover franchise. She is an 11-year-old girl (later 12 in the epilogue as well as Dream Productions and 13 in the sequel as well as the Deadpool crossover franchise and Toy Story 5) who loves ice hockey. She was uprooted from her happy and simple life in Minnesota, and taken to San Francisco, California, where she experiences various changes in her life. Her emotions (Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger) help her through this tough time, ensuring her well-being. After reaching puberty, Riley gets a new set of emotions: Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Nostalgia. She is also the adoptive daughter of Wade Wilson (aka Deadpool) and the adoptive sister of Riley Variants.

In the first movie, and Riley's First Date?, she was voiced by Kaitlyn Dias. In the sequel, and other Disney media, she is currently voiced by Kensington Tallman.

Mind Locations[]

  • Emotion Headquarters: The central part of Riley's mind, where Anger, Disgust, Joy, Fear, and Sadness (later, Anxiety, Ennui, Envy, Embarrassment, and Nostalgia) all live and control Riley and where her memories are produced.
  • Hero Hideout: The basement part of her mind that Deadpool, Wolverine, Human Torch, Blade, X-23, Elektra, Gambit, Daredevil, The Punisher, Ghost Rider, Free Guy, Larry Daley, Jake Sully and all the heroes live.
  • Personality Islands: Multiple personifications of different sides of Riley's personality, as determined by the core memories. Whenever Riley is doing whatever relates to a specific island, that island will animate.
    • Goofball Island - A recompilation of everything that can be considered "goofy": it has a Jack-in-the box, monkey's air horns, and a boot Ferris wheel. It also features theme park-like neon lights, just like the rest of the islands. The island was formed with a core memory of Riley running naked from her father after taking a bath, and reflects all of the times Riley ever acted goofy and funny during her childhood. It was the first island to collapse, when Riley does not laugh after her father tried to cheer her up. It is Joy's personal favorite island.
    • Friendship Island - An island that represents Riley's friendships. It was created from a Core Memory Orb of the first time Riley became best friends with Meg. It collapsed when Anger made Riley angry after Meg makes a new friend. It resembles a fairground and sound stage with statues of three heads conversing with each other. In Inside Out 2, Friendship Island has grown and prospered.
    • Hockey Island - First conceived when Riley was a young girl. While playing hockey with her family on the ice, she (accidentally) scored her very first goal, and a new Core Memory was formed. It led to the creation of this island. It collapsed when Riley failed at her hockey tryouts and quit. The island features structures resembling hockey sticks, helmets, pucks, a trophy, a scoreboard, and everything else relating to the sport of hockey. Snow and ice completely cover the island as well.
    • Honesty Island - Represents Riley's inclination towards truth and integrity. It was first created from a Core Memory Orb after Riley became honest with her parents as a toddler about breaking a plate with a hammer. It collapsed when Riley stole her mother's credit card. It consists of neoclassical buildings, a judge's gavel and a giant pair of scales, all symbols of justice and integrity.
    • Family Island - The center of all the islands and their foundation. It was created from a Core Memory of Riley baking cookies and having fun with her parents. The center of the island features a big sculpture of Riley embraced by her parents, which is surrounded by things related to Riley's family activities: a board game, Riley's house, her family tree, the family's car, and a camper used to go on vacation. It was the last island to collapse, when Riley was running away; unlike the other islands, it went down piece by piece instead of all at once. It completely collapsed off screen. After Joy and Sadness created a brand new yellow and blue Core Memory, Family Island was expanded. It now featured the Golden Gate Bridge, indicating that Riley has accepted San Francisco as her new home. In Inside Out 2, Family Island has become the tiniest of all islands, symbolizing Riley's loss of interest in family for now.
  • Long Term Memory: Enormous shelves of various memories form the main layout of her mind.
  • Imagination Land: A place where everything Riley imagines is built.
  • Dream Productions: Where dreams are filmed.
  • Subconscious: Contains Riley's worst fears.
  • Abstract Thought: A place where ideas (or anyone inside) are simplified to abstract concepts for better understanding.
  • Train of Thought: A train that connects Headquarters and the rest of the mind, bringing to the emotions things like thoughts (facts and opinions) or daydreams. It also moves memories around the different parts of the mind.
  • Memory Dump: An abyss surrounding Headquarters, where faded memories end up and eventually disappear to be forgotten forever.
  • Sar-Chasm: a chasm formed after Ennui uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism to shield Riley from humiliation. It is located somewhere at Long Term Memory and turns anything that is said on one side into a sarcastic remark when reaching the other one.
  • Belief System: A place located in the lowest part of her mind, where it connects to the Headquarters base and Riley's Core Memories and beliefs are stored, especially regarding her Sense of Self, the way she perceives herself.
  • The Vault: A prison that holds Riley's deep secrets and the most wanted criminals.
  • Stream of Consciousness: A stream that crosses Long Term Memory and appears to have many types of food floating around, reflecting on what Riley is tasting or desiring.
  • Back of the Mind: A dark place with a mountain made of bad memories that Riley wants to forget for now and the former hideout of the Resistance.

The time of day in Riley's mind changes depending on what Riley is doing at the moment. When she's awake, it's daytime, and when she's asleep, it darkens to a night sky. When she becomes depressed and apathetic, it becomes foggy and dark.

Trivia[]

  • According to Riley's username on the Chat Master program shown in the film, and the year the film takes place, she was born on January 22, 2004.
    • Therefore, taking into account her age during the first film, i.e. eleven years old, that means that the events of the film actually occur in the year 2015; while at the end of this one, when Riley is twelve years old, it takes place in 2016. And by the time she turns thirteen, the second film takes place in 2017.
